Rolled outta bed
About 8:30 a.m.
And I had a sensible breakfast
By that I mean
High-fiber cereal
Before my interview with Paquito D’Rivera

Then we rode our bikes to my mother’s house
By that I mean
The kids and I, not Paquito
There were odd jobs to be done
Including
The raking of the lawn

And the installation
Of screen door windows

For lunch I had
Swiss cheese
On some exceptional rye bread
When I got home
I checked my e-mail
And screwed around on the Internet

Did some laundry
Fixed some dinner
Penne pasta with tomato sauce
From! A! Jar!
I asked my wife
How was your day, babe
Then I stole some candy from the kids’ Easter baskets

I cannot tell a lie
It was delicious

Thoreau said
The mass of men
Lead lives of quiet desperation
Who am I to disagree
I’m quiet
I’m desperate
And I’m a man
So let’s review the facts about me
Where were we now -- oh...right

After dinner
I got back on my bike
And I rode to the auto supply store
I bought a tail lamp
For the Honda
Which I successfully installed

By 10 p.m. I was dozing off
Anderson Cooper was on
And as I drifted into sweet oblivion
The last thing I remember is singing this song
