This is a tribute to my favorite tributary. "Roll on, Big Creek, roll on" is a bit of a joke -- as anyone who has ever had the pleasure of encountering this ditty's namesake (at least in the uncharted wilds of Parma Heights, Ohio) knows. It's barely more than a trickle, unless there's a heavy rain. Nonetheless, once upon a time, the mighty Big Creek wound its way straight through the heart of the happiest place on Earth. Just ask Bill. Or Ken. Or me. Roll on, Big Creek, roll on....
I’m no Huck Finn
But then again
You’re no Mississippi
Nobody ever wrote a book about you
So this song will have to do
(Will it do)
I’m a lot like you
Just passing through
No way of knowing
Exactly where I’m going
Then I’m gone
Roll on, Big Creek, roll on
I just want to say thanks
For all the good times
On your muddy banks
(Good times)
So…thanks
(Good times)
When every day was a daydream
I’d float downstream
(Good times)
(Good times)
I’m a lot like you
Just passing through
No way of knowing
Exactly where I’m going
Then I’m gone
Roll on, Big Creek, roll on
Boys will be boys
Or so they say
They’ll build their little dams
And put stones in your way
But you can’t hold back time
It rolls on and on
Nothing can withstand the flow
Boys will be boys
Or so they say
Yeah they’ll build their little dams
And put stones in your way
But you can’t hold back time
It rolls on and on
Nothing can withstand the flow
Roll on, Big Creek, roll on
I’m a lot like you
Just passing through
No way of knowing
Exactly where I’m going
Then I’m gone
Roll on, Big Creek, roll on
I’m a lot like you
Just passing through
No way of knowing
Exactly where I’m going
Then I’m gone
Roll on, Big Creek, roll on
